A Warm Welcome to the CORESTA 2026 Congress

On behalf of the Tobacco Research Board (t/a Kutsaga) of Zimbabwe and the entire Kutsaga family, and from the heart of our nation, it is with immense pride and great pleasure that we extend the warmest of welcomes to the global tobacco science community for the CORESTA 2026 Congress.

The year 2026 is a landmark one, marking the 70th anniversary of CORESTA, a remarkable testament to seven decades of global scientific collaboration, innovation, and excellence. This pinnacle follows the echo of our own celebration, as Kutsaga proudly marked 75 years of pioneering research in 2025.  That these two significant anniversaries converge here in Zimbabwe makes the 2026 Congress not merely a gathering, but a historic meeting of legacy, partnership, and future vision.  This convergence of legacy and future makes the 2026 Congress a truly historic occasion.  

Our bond with CORESTA is woven deep into our own story. It is a privilege to reflect on the chapters we’ve written together:

  • In 1963, we welcomed delegates to then Salisbury (Harare) for the 3rd International Tobacco Scientific Congress.
  • In 1994, we hosted the CORESTA Congress in Harare under the theme “Search for Excellence.”
  • In 2019, we convened the immensely successful AgroPhyto Meeting (AP2019) in the majestic Victoria Falls.
  • And now, in 2026, we are once again delighted to open our doors, this time back in Victoria Falls, one of the world’s most iconic natural wonders.

It is a particular point of pride to host you in Zimbabwe, a nation whose name is synonymous with high-quality tobacco and whose industry stands as an enduring pillar of our agricultural economy, marked by resilience, innovation, and success. Today, Zimbabwe proudly stands among the world’s foremost exporters of flue-cured tobacco, with this congress convening in the wake of a record-shattering 354 million kilogrammes sold last season, and bold ambitions set to reach 500 million in the years ahead. Our achievements are built on the dedication of our growers and a deep-seated commitment to scientific research and technological advancement, the very mission that has defined Kutsaga for 75 years.

We are committed to crafting a Congress as monumental as the occasion it marks: intellectually electric, professionally invaluable, and rich with cultural spirit.  The 2026 CORESTA Congress will provide a dynamic platform for the presentation of groundbreaking research, the exchange of ideas, and the strengthening of the collaborative spirit that continues to define CORESTA.

Beyond the congress halls and the networks that you will forge, we invite you to feel the pulse of Africa. Prepare to stand in awe before Victoria Falls, one of the Seven Natural Wonders of the World. Let its mighty roar be your soundtrack. Feel its cool mist on your skin. Discover the serene beauty of the Zambezi at sunset, and witness the untamed majesty of our wildlife in nearby national parks.
